the enchanted highway

today outside of bismark we ran across these
very large pieces of art,
some were on the interstate
but most were between gladstone
and regent on the enchanted highway

the drive to geese in flight is lined with
poles with geese on them

this is the actual piece, remember these are
between 30 and 40 feet tall all made by
the same artist

 this one is deer crossing

this one is power pole
not actually part of the art pieces
but i thought i would throw it in

grasshoppers in the field

fisherman's dream

pheasants in the field

the tin family

and a few shots of the surrounding farmland
lots of hay, corn and sunflowers

and i was just wondering if anyone else
knew how much water north dakota has
puddles, ponds, lakes, and rivers i had no idea

where is waldo anyway

bet you have been wondering where
we have been, well we seemed to
have ended up in norway,
boy was that a wrong turn

actually this is a smoke house in
a park dedicated to scandinavia
located in minot north dakota
who would have thought

the largest building seems to be
set up as a church or meeting house
i suppose if you read all of the
plaques around it would tell you everything
you needed to know, but you know me

i did take a photo of the Plaque that went
with the painted horse

taken inside of the meeting hall,
i didn't know that the vikings had
such cushy chairs

taken from a distance, it is a pretty
impressive building

amazing detail in the carving and wouldn't
you like to have been the one putting up
all of those shingles

the last two were of duluth
between duluth and superior it is
one of the largest ports in the country

the leaves are at their peak
according to the news and online

these are all in one area also just about
a mile up from the campground

a little stream just up from the campground

shrooms

a superior beach indeed

little sandy bay, up by the apical islands
we were thinking about a cruse around
the islands but too late in the season
everything was closed

tomorrow it is going to rain so we thought we
would do up the dirty laundry have the
oil changed in the truck and be ready for
the move on tuesday morning

ok,ok i missed a day

on thursday we went up past sturgeon bay
looking for light houses
we found a few most seem to be tucked
back behind, around or under some
goofy lettered street letter like dd, ca, oo
you get the point
this one is as far out on that little
finger that sticks up above green bay

some underwater rocks and sand

the beach and lake next to
the underwater rocks

ok i lied this is the lighthouse that is the
furthest out on the finger

looking back at the second furthest lighthouse
from the furthest lighthouse

as we were cruising around we came across
a park called cave point
the lake has undermined the
rocks causing caves
that the water sloshes in and out

a view across some bay, can't remember which one

another lighthouse in the same area
mosquito breeding ground i swear

some pretty berrys, i didn't eat them but thought about it

today was moving day, all hooked up
and ready to go

took a little break and ended up on a dirt road
surprise, surprise but it was a
smooth road which
took us back to the main road.

we are now just outside of superior, wi
we will start looking around tomorrow
in this area as well as duluth
heard there was a good deli on the
waterfront that smokes their own meats
